WIGS FOR KIDS - HOW TO DONATE

This process was very new for me as I had never donated hair before. As I started to do some more research on how to donate, requirements and collecting donations, I realized it wasn't a very easy process to follow.
There were a few things that were very important to me:
1. That the hair be donated to a child - I felt that because it was my 4 year old donating, I wanted it to go towards a childs wig.
2. Collecting donations - Donating her hair was only part of what we wanted to gain from this experience, so finding another way we could help was equally important.
3. The hair salon - I needed to find a hair salon that understood the process and requirements for the donation.
I've listed everything I chose to make the process easier, follow these 4 simple steps.
1. DONATING TO A CAUSE - WIGS FOR KIDS BC
I decided to do this through Wigs for KIDS as I was confident that a child would recieve her hair. This link will help you with with the hair donation criteria and details about where to mail the hair once it has been cut.
2. COLLECTING DONATIONS
Another thing that I needed help with was setting up a donation page. Donating has come along way since I collected donations back when I was in school. We used to have to walk around with a paper envelope collecting coins and bills, those days people actually carried cash so it worked a little better than it would now. These days with everything being electronic I had to find a way to make the donating process a bit simpler, this site accepts visa and paypal which most people use. You can also still accept cash donations and mail it along with the hair.
Follow the link below to create a personal page to send to friends and family and monitor the growth of your fundraising.
By creating a page you can write a short paragraph about the fundraiser, the goal that you're trying to reach and also send thank you notes to everyone that donated.

3. HAIR SALON - SALON BLUE
I was very happy with the salon that I chose, Salon Blue was very knowledgeable and knew how the hair had to be stored for the donation. As an added bonus they gave my daughter the cutest, trendiest little haircut and she was the happiest little girl.
4. THE FINAL STEPS
All the work is pretty much done, you've raised money, the hair has been cut, now its just a matter of sending the hair in. It can be mailed or dropped off to the address below:

This was such an emotional and meaningful experience that I got to share with my daughter. I'm grateful that I got to document this and will be able to show her when she's older.
