RECIPE: DALGONA MATCHA

RECIPE: DALGONA MATCHA

We’ve all seen the dalgona coffee craze. I’ve tried it and I love it. To me, it’s a homemade version of iced coffee.

A not as popular rendition of this drink is called dalgona matcha.

Unfortunately, matcha does not have the same proprieties as instant coffee so it brings problems to whip factor. (Instant coffee has added gums which tend to whip with just the addition of sugar and water).

I have done a lot of research on recipes for dalgona matcha and have yet to find a recipe to make with ease.

The two common options I found for this recipe were:
1) Combining egg whites, boiling sugar and water. To me, this seemed to be too much effort for a simple mid day pick me up.

2) Including aquafaba. (If you’ve never heard of this ingredient, it is the liquid found in canned beans most popular the chickpea).

While a great option, I really think opening a can of beans to make an iced tea drink is a bit of a daunting task.

Ultimately, I didn’t consider these options feasible.

So I got to thinking about other “whipping” options that I may have on hand. I remembered I had an ingredient called, Kraft Dream Whip, it’s an instant whip topping mix.

With this, I came up with a simple 4 ingredient version of this crazed sensation. I must say, it tastes just like an iced green tea frappe.

Ingredients
(yields 2 servings)

1 tsp Matcha Powder
1 tbsp Brown Sugar
2 tbsp Kraft Dream Whip Powder
2 tbsp Milk

There are 2 options to make this:
